Belote is a classic French trick-taking card game for 4 players in 2 fixed teams (partners sit across from each other). Played with a 32-card deck (7 to Ace in 4 suits), the goal is to take tricks and score points to reach 1000.
The dealer flips a card. In round 1, each player in turn can "Take" (accept that suit as trump) or "Pass". If everyone passes, in round 2 each player can pick a different suit as trump or pass. If all pass again, the deal is annulled and a new dealer redeals.
In trump suit: J (20), 9 (14), A (11), 10 (10), K (4), Q (3), 8 (0), 7 (0). In non-trump suits: A (11), 10 (10), K (4), Q (3), J (2), 9 (0), 8 (0), 7 (0). Each round totals 162 points (152 for cards + 10 "ten of last" for the final trick).
You must follow suit if possible. If you can't follow, you must trump (and overtrump if your partner is not currently winning the trick). When trump is led, you must play higher trump if you can. Highest card of the led suit wins, unless someone trumps — then highest trump wins.
If you hold both the King and Queen of trump, announce "Belote" when you play the first one and "Rebelote" with the second. Your team scores +20 bonus points. We auto-announce it for you.
The bidding team must score strictly more than the opponents. If they don't, they go "Inside" — opponents take all 162 points (plus Belote bonus if any). If the bidding team wins all 8 tricks, that's "Capot" — +90 bonus points.
First team to reach 1000 cumulative points wins the match. Rounds are typically a couple of minutes each.
